What will happen.....
When will the last rhino be poached, at the rate we are going it won’t surprise me that it will be tomorrow. If that last rhino is poached, the identity of South Africa will die with it. The rangers have a constant battle against poachers, because the poachers are armed with AK 47’s and they are normally not one poacher but whole syndicates of them. The rangers do not have this sort of ammunition and is usually one ranger on watch when poaching accurse.
If there is no more rhinos in South Africa no more people will come and visit us, because they come to see the big five, which the rhino is part of. People see South Africa as the land of the wild; therefore they come to us to see wildlife. There will be a drastic decrease in our economy. When tourists come and visit South Africa it is logical that they spend money, mostly on Wildlife Park. So funding of tourist is needed to protect and take care of other endangered animals. These animals will no longer be protected, at some wildlife parks the funding of tourists is needed for these animals, if there are no longer tourists more wild life animals will suffer if the rhino is extinct.
The rhino is the most beautiful and extraordinary animal alive. Why would someone want to hurt such animal, just for his/her horn? Some people believe that the horn is medicine for something, but it is not true. The horn is as equal to your fingernail. I as a seventeen year old girl do not someday want to tell my kids or grandchildren about rhinos and have to show a picture of them, I want to let them see a life one, but that is what will happen, if someone does not stop the poaching.
The big five, of which the rhino is part, is the thing that belongs to South Africa and is only special to us as South Africans. It takes the attention away from the other stuff that is not so great in South Africa. Poverty is the one thing that is the biggest problem in South Africa, when the rhino is here it takes the attention away from the poverty. So if the last rhino is poached what will other countries and there citizens think of our land. A person can look from another point of view to. When people from other countries come and see the rhino, they notice how many people are there that is living in poor conditions. And so when they see this they might lend a hand and help these poor people, all thanks to the rhino. If there are no longer rhinos we will and I know we will fall deeper in to poverty.
A lot of wildlife parks will close because of low income, which means people will lose their jobs, referring to paragraph three poverty will increase. People who are interested in being a wildlife ranger will no longer have something to look forward to doing when they become one. I look forward to become a ranger to protect and care for this magnificent creature. If there are no longer rhinos, what will learners are looking forward to do when they become one, they will lose interest and fewer people would like to become rangers. This is a disadvantage for the other wildlife animals, because there is no one to protect them.
Generations and generations will past and only stories will be told to them of this animal, the rhino. They will not be as lucky as us to see and touch a rhino. It will be our fault. Although we try to stop the poaching, I think we can do more. Maybe the sentencing of poachers should be harsher and inhumane. Just like the poachers steal the horns of the rhinos; we also should steel their freedom.
Most people think that the rhino is just there for its beauty and the nature. What people don’t know is that the rhino plays a big role in our ecosystem and plant – also animal species will die. If the rhinos are no longer here the whole ecosystem will be turned upside down. The rhino is an herbivore and so he shapes the landscapes while he is grazing, I mean this isn’t a small animal he weights a ton. While the rhino is walking through thick bushes he opens up spaces for other small species to walk thru. Sometimes the rhinos break trees. Which keep the trees small and reachable, so small leaf eaters can get to it to eat leafs. The rhino’s body is also a home and food source for birds. While the rhino is walking insects fly up from the ground and the bird on the rhinos catches them and eats. The bird on the rhinos back also eat the ticks and lice of the rhino, this is also a source of food for these birds. If the rhino is no longer there what will happen to the birds. That bird species will also become extinct. It will be a fuscous cycle of other animals becoming extinct, just like I said they rely on the rhino.
Rhinos like digging, which I think other animals use as their home. Some holes that they dig become water pools, when it rains. That water pool becomes a breeding ground, which other species uses to complete their lifecycles, insects like dragonflies and amphibians like frogs etc. While they dig the holes, minerals and neutrons stick to their horns and feet and while they are walking these minerals and neutrons spread all around on the ground. There where the minerals and neutrons fall the soil become richer and the plants can grow. Other animals rely on the plants that will grow. If rhinos are no longer here, I think that some grassland will die and some animals with it. So not just animals rely on them but also plant species rely on rhinos. The whole ecosystem, including every wild animal and plant, will suffer if the last rhino will be poached.
I know this essay is about the last rhino being poached but I just want to tell you a about these rhinos surviving such an attack. It was in the Fairy Glen Private Game Reserve in Worcester where a bull and pregnant cow where dehorned with a machete. A large amount of morphine was given to them before the where dehorned. I wonder how their story ended. How can a man with a beating heart take a machete and chop of a horn from a life rhino that person might have a heart but currently it is made of stone.
If the last rhino is poached, the poachers will just start with the elephants or the lions and it will go on and on and on, the cycle won’t stop till there are no more wild animals alive in the world. Then if there are no more animals around what will living before. God gave as this amazing job to look after these magnificent creatures, if there are no longer animals I wonder what our job on earth will be. For fifty million years rhinos have been on earth, today they have involved into the beautiful animal you see, if there are no longer rhinos we will never see what they would have evolved into. There is so many stuff we do not understand about the rhino his temperament, social life and so on. How will we get to learn more about this intelligent animal when he is no longer a living thing on earth?
I do not want to say this, but I think some good did come from this poaching problem. The world and his people started to work together to stop the poaching. I know poaching isn’t right, but I think you would agree with me. We started to stand together. Relationships where build between countries and his people. When the last rhino is poached what will happen, will we turn against each other again. But if the poaching against rhinos stop we will still be working together to make the population lager of rhinos, so the working together will not stop when the poaching stops but it will stop when the last rhino on earth is poached.
I can give all these facts about what will happen when the last rhino is poached but still people won’t care. When you really think about it, it is serious. So many bad things can happen when that day comes, when that horn is taken of the last rhino. I know I am only seventeen and this essay won’t be taken seriously and I don’t care. All it takes is for one poacher to see this essay or any other essays about this situation to start making a change.
Our own government should also start doing something, not that I am bad mouthing them, I am just saying. When the people of South Africa see that the government is starting and trying to stop the poaching of rhinos. And only then the citizens of South Africa will take it serious and start doing something. You don’t have to go out and chase poachers just by donating to one of the anti poaching organisations or even the WWF you are playing a part in saving the rhinos. It doesn’t even matter if it is just an R 10, that R 10 can save a rhinos life.
While I was writing this essay I did some research. It broke my heart to see how many rhinos were poached. Most of them in an inhumane way, it kills me to see and hear about the rhinos being killed for something that has no meaning. Actually the people who do these things are low life, money seeking and dumb. If I could I will take those rhinos place in front of that machete. I don’t care about the money or the competition. For me it is a chance for my voice to be heard.
